Bryan Clover, ceo of The Rainy Day Trust (helping those that work or have worked in our industry) is asking for support from members of the housewares industry for his Dry January. To sponsor his challenge, email bryan@rainydaytrust.org.uk
Bryan highlights: “The work that the Rainy Day Trust is becoming more important each year and as Brexit looms we are seeing loads more enquiries from frightened and worried people. Those on zero hours or part-time contracts are affected badly at the moment.”
Looking ahead, Bryan explains: “This year once again we will be running a budget deficit because the number of people that we help is growing rapidly – we spend three times as much now on helping people as we did three years ago. And we expect that growth rate to continue. “
Bryan gives an example of the needs addressed by The Rainy Day Trust (particularly relevant with temperatures due to drop this month): “Having to make a choice about whether you heat your home or eat is something that simply shouldn’t happen in 2019 Britain but it does. I have seen homes where there is ice on the INSIDE of the windows in the morning because it is so cold. This person wasn’t lazy, or drinking. They were in their eighties and were desperately trying to survive on a pathetic pension. “
