Ambiente to greet supermodel and leading chefs

When Ambiente opens its doors to the world this Friday (February 7-11), VIP guests will include international model Toni Garrn. Toni is best known for her work with titles such as Vogue, Elle & Harper’s Bazaar and brands such as Burberry, Chloé, Calvin Klein, Victoria’s Secret, Versace, Prada, Chanel, Elie Saab, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, L’Oreal and Cartier.

However, Toni is also actively involved in development aid in Africa for seven years and founded the Toni Garrn Foundation (mainly focussed on girls’ educational progress). In addition to seeing the latest trends at Ambiente – including those associated with kitchen and dining – Toni is also keen to see the extent to which extent consumption and sustainability are compatible. She will visit Ambiente on February 10.

Ambiente’s dedication to social commitment and sustainability are evident with its Ethical Style Guide (listing sustainable and ethical goods at the show), as well as its initiatives with the World Fair Trade Organisation and the MADE 51 project (a UN Refugee Agency project).

Meanwhile, the new HoReCa Academy will feature presentations and seminars with leading chefs and culinary innovators including Jozef Youssef (of The Kitchen Theory think tank and The Chef’s Table, London). At a HoReCa event on Friday, Jozef will talk about the impact of different senses on food.

Prior to Ambiente, Jozef has been running a survey entitled “Investing in designer crockery pays off: a study evaluating the perceived value of a dish in correlation with the price of the plate”. In total, 1,000 people from different continents were given a specific dish at a restaurant and were questioned about differences in perception – depending on the design, shape and texture of the plate.

Other HoReCa speakers include celebrity caterer Asma Khan and the well-known ceramics designer Maham Anjum will be jointly presenting an inspiring case study on tableware for the Darjeeling Express Restaurant in London (February 10).

* Ambiente 2019 featured 4,460 exhibitors from 92 countries, attracted 136,081 trade visitors from 167 countries. Its Dining sectors include the Halls 1, 3, 4s and 12, while Hall 6 is dedicated to HoReCa and Hall 10 for Global Sourcing.
