‘Tablescapes’ spawn new business

The new art of ‘tablescapes’ was the subject of a recent article in The Times newspaper (Thursday November 14). Instragram is fuelling the popularity of elaborately dressed tables, and businesses are now selling or hiring tableware and accessories to dress a table with attractive or seasonal themes.

The article describes ‘tablescapes’ as ‘more of an experience than a table.’ For example,@mrsalice’ aka Alice Naylor-Leyland has just launched her own Christmas tablescapes, selling boxes that include napkins, glasses, candlesticks, vases and accessories such as crackers. In The Times’ article, Alice reflects on guests’ expectations for less formal dinner parties: “I think people care what it looks like, but rather than being very matchy-matchy, they want it to look cool and curated, but also like you threw it together.’
