Cookshops are going greener

Environmental issues such as plastic waste are influencing the majority of consumers and buyers, according to the results of PH/Bira’s Retail Barometer confirm.

Concerns about the environment influenced consumers’ buying habits last year according to 65% of PH/Bira’s Retail Barometer respondents (see piechart).

Moreover, some 62% of respondents say that in 2019 they are ordering more products that reduce ‘single use’, while 16% are ordering products that have less packaging.

‘Sustainable and environmentally friendly products’ are the most frequently mentioned area of product diversification by cookshops and housewares retailers in the Retail Barometer.

One respondent comments: “Our Plastic Free campaign had great resonance with our customers, so we will continue to champion causes that effect everyday lives.”

The survey on the health and viewpoints of independents was open to all independent cookshops and housewares retailers. For the full results of The Retail Barometer, see Progressive Housewares March/April pages 22-25.
