Bodum raises a ‘glass’ to 75th

Bodum is celebrating 75 years since the company was founded in Copenhagen in April 1944. The brand will be showcasing new products at Exclusively Housewares this week (June 11-12, London’s Business Design Centre) – including its new polycarbonate drinkware, which resembles glass but is perfect for outdoor celebrations.

The drinkware is made in Bodum’s own factory in Aveiro, Portugal, which opened last year (an hour from the company’s long established factory in Tondela, Portugal) – contributing to substantial growth in Bodum’s manufacturing capacity. The factories are proud to uphold the brand’s commitment to sustainable production.

Bodum is also celebrating the fact that many classic designs continue to delight consumers, including the Chambord French press coffee maker (dating back to the 1950s), the Mocca, the siphon/vacuum coffee maker (introduced in 1950s and updated last year) and the Pebo.

Jørgen Bodum, owner, reflects that his company was founded “against all odds” by his father Peter, 75 years ago:

“War was raging, and times were difficult in Denmark. Where everything else seemed grey and black, he went out on his own colourful mission.” He adds: “A lot of his ideas from that time are still very much alive today.”

Not surprisingly, the brand has chosen a nostalgic pastel colour palette for its 75th anniversary range of core products, including tea, coffee and travel mugs.
