Amazon Prime Day Protests

GMB, the union for Amazon workers, is staging protests today (July 15) to highlight what it describes as “appalling” working conditions for its members in the online giant’s warehouses. The demonstrations outside Amazon fulfilment centres (including Rugeley, Swansea, Peterborough, Warrington, Coventry, Doncaster and Milton Keynes) coincide with Amazon Prime Day 2019 – Amazon’s two-day event (from July 15 to 16) featuring non-stop deals.

According to the union, more than 600 reports have been made from Amazon warehouses to the Health and Safety Executive. Mick Rix, GMB national officer comments:“It’s prime time for Amazon get round the table with GMB and discuss ways to make their workplaces safer, and to give their workers an independent voice.”
