B&M, Wilko and The Range are footfall magnets

A new report by GlobalData entitled ‘UK Retail Parks 2018-2023’ says that B&M, Wilko and The Range rank in the top 10 retailers visited in retail parks across various sectors. The three popular general merchandisers all include housewares among their wide variety of stock.

The report notes that non-food sales at retail parks declined by 1.1% in 2018, citing the demise of Toys R Us and Maplin. However GlobalData foresees growth in retail parks’ sales over the next five years with spend predicted to rise by £4.1bn to reach £52.8bn by 2023. The report expects that retail parks will outstrip town centres and the total offline market as high streets continue to face declining footfall and store closures (such as branches of Marks & Spencer and Debenhams).

GlobalData acknowledges that an increased focus on leisure facilities is likely to increase footfall to retail parks over the next few years.
