Avocado makes a comeback

Leatrice Eiseman – executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute and colour expert for the International Housewares Association (IHA) enlightened audiences at the Chicago’s recent International Home + Housewares Show (IH+HS March 2-5) with her presentations, including: “Color/Texture/Finish: Back to the Future.”

“The bar has been raised across many industries to really create some fabulous color combinations and patterns,” said Lee, explaining how the proliferation of digital media has exposed consumers to more colour than ever before.

Discussing colour families and the reinvention of colour combinations, Lee highlighted the influence of one of the currentdarlings of the food industry” – the avocado. “New” and “fresh” are the most common responses to the colour in word association studies today.

One of the more unusual but eye-catching combinations in the blue family is turquoise and avocado, according to Lee. Among other insights, Lee emphasised the popularity of metallic – especially silver, chrome, nickel, brass and very shiny gold.

Colour trends were also showcased at the IH+HS’ Hall of Global Innovation Pantone exhibit.

* In 2020, the IH+HS will be renamed The Inspired Home Show, IHA’s Global Home + Housewares Market. Visit TheInspiredHomeShow.com or Housewares.org.
