What More produces PPE

What More UK is the latest housewares supplier to step up to support the NHS during the current coronavirus crisis. The Lancashire based manufacturer is retooling to produce parts for facemasks – contributing to the UK’s vital need for personal protective equipment.

What More is manufacturing part for safety visors at a rate of 60,000 week “until the country has enough,” says managing director Andy Holt.

Andy says that the company has “jumped into action out of a sense of national duty,” and reflects that: “Not since the dark days of war have the country’s manufacturing companies been called upon to support the greater national goals.”

One member of staff, commenting on Twitter, summed up the feeling in What More HQ: “I can’t remember feeling this proud. In normal times it’s just a piece of plastic. Now it’s a lifesaver”

Tony Grimshaw OBE, company director, added: “In situations like this, times of national emergency, everyone has to play their part. We are proud of the way the nation has responded to this challenge and we are pleased to be able to offer our skills and expertise”

In just 20 years What More UK has gone from being a small start-up, to exporting to 73 countries around the world, producing Wham storage boxes, bakeware, cookware and products for the home laundry, utility room and garden.

* Dyson says it is ready to produce 10,000 ventilators for the NHS if its design passes the stringent MHRA tests. The SDA manufacturer partnered with TTP (The Technology Partnership) to bring scientists, medical experts and engineers together to create a new design for a critical care ventilator in record time. Dyson’s engineering team and component manufacturers “have been working round the clock.”
