What More UK shortlisted for the Made in the Northwest Awards

What More UK, the Lancashire based manufacturer of housewares, cookware, and garden products, has been shortlisted for three awards at the Insider Media Made in the North West Awards 2020.

The nominations are for the Export Award, Sustainable/Ethical Manufacturer Award and the overall Manufacturer of the Year (over £25m category). The company currently exports to 73 countries around the world and that number is continually growing.  It operates a zero to landfill policy, and in the past 12 months has diverted over 90 tonnes of waste plastic from landfill. What More also produces a range of products made from post-industrial scrap plastic.

Tony Grimshaw OBE commented: “To be nominated for these awards is such an honour. We are hardworking people, doing our best to show the nation what’s possible. This is not about the products, or the buildings, or the machines, it’s about the people.”

Meanwhile, following last month’s announcement that What More would be making 60,000 parts a week for personal protective equipment (PPE) visors, the manufacturer has now promised to double production up to 120,000 parts per week. The parts are helping in the fight against Covid-19.

The vastly increased production is down to What More UK’s senior engineer Rob Walker. Working with a local manufacturing mould maker, Richard has developed a four-impression mould which will enable What More to produce 17280 parts per day, or around 120,000 parts per week.

Richard said: “Although we are increasing our efforts to support the war against the virus, as a company we hope and pray it won’t be needed for much longer and the UK can return to normality.”
