Get on your bike for Rainy Day Trust

The first virtual edition of Prudential RideLondon – the world’s greatest festival of cycling – will take place on August 15-16 to celebrate cycling and raise funds to help save the UK’s charities, including the Rainy Day Trust.

All ages and abilities can take part in one of the Prudential RideLondon challenges (free of charge, anywhere in the world) and raise much needed cash for the home enhancement and housewares industry charity. Bryan Clover, ceo of the Rainy Day Trust has signed up, even though he has not ridden a bike for 40 years!

Bryan commented: “This is a fantastic, fully inclusive opportunity for everyone to get involved and do something to help keep the Rainy Day Trust there for our industry.  The impact of Covid-19 Pandemic has dramatically affected us due to cancelled events and a significant reduction in our fundraising activities, combined with increased demand for help.  Even the smallest event will help and ensure that we can continue to help those who so desperately need our assistance. “

Hugh Brasher, event director of Prudential RideLondon said: “After the disappointment of the cancellation of Prudential RideLondon, we were determined to create something special for our riders, partners and the hundreds of charities that rely on the event for vital income.”

There are several different challenges ranging from 19 miles to 100miles on a bike, or a ‘free style’ event on participants’ choice of wheels (such as scooters, skateboards, roller skates, and wheelchairs).

Meanwhile, Bryan explained: “I might never have managed to cycle 100 miles from London to Surrey, but at least I can do some freestyle stuff and raise some cash for Rainy Day Trust.  As it is freestyle, I haven’t quite made up my mind what I’m going to do yet, so stay tuned.  I haven’t ridden a bike in 40 years, so I may go for roller skates or a scooter.  I’m quite tempted by the idea of using a cycling machine and doing a mega ride and see how far I can get in 12 hours or until my legs give out and I fall off! Grateful for your support.”

You can sponsor Bryan HERE.

Participants who wish to ride for Rainy Day Trust need to register in advance and select their challenge at www.myridelondon.co.uk. The site will also provide a link to Virgin Money Giving where they can set up their fundraising page.
