Cookshops back #ShopLocal Week

The #ShopLocal campaign, which started on Monday (August 10) and runs until Sunday, August 16, is celebrating the British high street by encouraging customers to return to their safe, local shops, supporting the local economy and local jobs.

The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) has been supplying its members (including cookshop and housewares retailers) with toolkits to take part in the Government initiative, which includes posting shop’s activities on social media, using the tag #ShopLocal.

The Government campaign highlights eight reasons to shop locally including ‘A better shopping experience,’ stating, ‘As the UK continues to recover from the pandemic, the experience of buying locally from a friendly face offers a dose of normality that many people may have missed.’

The Woodbridge Kitchen Company is one of the cookshop and housewares stockists that is urging consumers to ‘Shop Local”, with its eye-catching window display. Other cookshops and housewares stockists that are making use of the current #ShopLocal initiative include Hargreaves & Sons in Buxton and Frankie and Johnny’s Cookshop in York.

On behalf of the Government, business secretary Alok Sharma acknowledged: “Business owners have done an incredible job so far to welcome shoppers back safely, and I hope people across the country will do their bit this week to help our high streets bounce back to protect jobs and support local communities.”

Andrew Goodacre, Bira’s ceo said: “We’d like to say thank you to the Government for this extra support which highlights the importance of independent shops and the Great British high street.”
