John Lewis’ ‘undersold’ promise to go

John Lewis’ chairman Sharon White has said she expects that the retailer’s ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ pledge will be replaced. In a recent interview for The Sunday Times, Sharon confirmed that the promise (in place since 1925) was being reviewed and updated.

Sharon also confirmed that the department store would have a greater focus on home and garden products, and would be more vocal about its values as a socially responsible retailer.

* John Lewis has been proactive in its helps for the NHS over the past months, with recent developments including its sale of face coverings to raise funds for NHS Charities together. The coverings are made by the retailer’s textile factory in Lancashire, which has also been making thousands of medical gowns for the NHS. The John Lewis Partnership has given or committed to £2.7m of support for charities and local communities, either as a financial or product donation, since the coronavirus pandemic began.
