Borough Kitchen sees pent-up demand

With the reopening on non-essential retailers in England on Monday (April 12), David Caldana, co-founder of Borough Kitchen reports during the first week back for his stores in London’s Borough Market, Islington, Hampstead and Chiswick: “Overall, we have seen a strong start back with pent-up demand clearly on show in our four shops that reopened on Monday.

Many of the customers we are seeing in-store have been doing research online and through our regular emails during lockdown and have now come in to see and hold the products before making the final purchase decision.”

David continues: “After getting used to cooking most meals at home over much of the past year, customers are realising it is time to upgrade their cookware and to invest in higher quality products that will perform better and last for a lifetime.

Online sales have slowed down compared to lockdown levels, but still remain above average. Supply shortages from some key suppliers on some of our top sellers have been a drag on sales, caused by production delays, transport delays and customs clearance delays.”
