What More’s free health checks

With 350 staff across its sites in Padiham and Altham, What More UK is investing in a free medical check-up programme. The scheme provides each employee with the opportunity to attend an opt-in, personal and confidential health check-up.

Colleagues can discuss any ongoing or previous health issues with a doctor, including any concerns or pre-existing conditions.  Bloods can be taken and tested for cholesterol, diabetes, vitamin deficiency or any other concerns. The check-ups can also include measuring blood pressure and weight or heart monitoring if an area of concern. A full confidential health report issued by the doctor will be given to the employee only.

The initiative follows reports that only 58% of GP appointments in England in August 2021 were face-to-face, compared with four in five before the pandemic in August 2019, with many people having concerns but not wanting to cause a burden on the NHS.

Company director Tony Grimshaw OBE comments: “It concerns me that people might have health worries they can’t get to a GP for. We’re very happy to invest in this initiative; even if it’s just for peace of mind it is well worth doing – and might even be a lifesaver in the worst case. We have a great team here at What More, and we want them all to be happy and healthy!”
