Dexam expands Sintra collection

Following the success of Sintra last summer, Dexam has added two new colours and seven additional pieces for 2024.

Duck Egg and Stone have been introduced in the existing pieces: terracotta jugs, wine coolers, tapas dishes, oil drizzlers and mango wood salad bowls & servers. New pieces include recycled glass carafes, oil drizzlers and tumblers, terracotta olive dishes, mango wood chip and dip bowls, recycled cotton bread baskets and new recycled cotton napkin and placemat set designs.

Sales of homewares rose sharply in 2023 as people ate out less  and entertained at home instead. It comes as the cost of living remains high, putting pressure on households. This is something Dexam was conscious of when looking at the future of the collection.

Helen Boardman, Dexam’s product manager, said: “For 2024 I wanted to widen the appeal of Sintra. We therefore decided to extend the collection and have launched 2 new colours and 7 additional pieces to ensure its suitability for year-round entertaining in the home to coincide with this trend.”

The new Stone colour makes it suitable for almost any room . The natural shade provides a flexible base for tablescapes, allowing for easy updates and changes without the need for a complete colour overhaul.

Duck Egg blue marks the arrival of spring and Easter but also works for summer dining or creating a winter wonderland feel at Christmas time.

As a brand that is passionate about reducing its impact on the environment, Dexam has been keen to create beautiful pieces in the collection from sustainable sources. The newest material for 2024 is 100% recycled glass which is made in Spain.

To make each piece, used glass is collected by a specialist company and transported to a local recycling plant in Spain. Here the glass is treated and selected according to quality, then crushed into cullets and delivered to the factory. The recycled glass cullets are then placed in ovens, without any type of additive at a temperature of 1460oC, melted and poured into moulds.

This process means reducing the space in landfills that would otherwise be taken up by used bottles and jars. It saves 25-32% more energy as recycled glass cullets can melt at a lower temperature compared to making glass from raw materials for the first time. It also results in less emissions of nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide, both greenhouse gases, reducing air pollution by 14-20%.

Bryony Dyer, Dexam’s managing director, said: “One of the biggest success stories from last year was the launch of our Sintra collection. It remained a consistent bestseller and not only caught retailers attention but it was picked up by many national newspapers and magazines. Products appeared on trend boards and stories by Good Homes, Ideal Home and Bella magazines and, the Independent crowned our Sintra Wine Cooler a ‘Best Buy’ in their INDY Best review of the year.

“Not only that, but the collection was Highly Commended in the Tabletop Product of the Year Award by Housewares Magazine and reached the finals in the Excellence in Housewares Awards. Our additional pieces for 2024 have been designed to allow for entertaining at different times of the year. The chip and dip bowls are perfect for snacking and are an easy item to get out and share food when family and friends are over. The olive dish is great for pre-meal appetisers and the carafe works with red and white wine, water or cordials.”
