Retailers rejoice at EIH finalist news

Following the announcement of the retailer awards for the Excellence in Housewares Awards 2022, everyone from indies to multiples, online stores to department stores, garden centres to supermarkets, have been rejoicing in the respected position of finalists. The finalists were arrived at following extensive polling across the sector, which saw both a volume of nominations from suppliers, reps and agents as well as self- nominations and submissions from retailers themselves.

On hearing the news that Harts of Stur is a finalist in several retail awards categories, managing director Graham Hart commented: “Everyone at Harts is over the moon to be nominated as a finalist in three categories at this year’s Excellence in Housewares Awards – Excellence in Online Retailing, Retail Training and Independent Cookshop of the Year, especially with both aspects of our business, in-store and online, being recognised.

“This year has been a hard year for everyone at Harts with the passing of my father Philip, but all have worked their socks off to support one another, and these nominations are well deserved.”

Holly Wilson, owner of Prep Cookshop and Richard Dare in North London said the joint nomination for Independent Cookshop of the Year is “a really lovely way to start the final quarter.” Looking forward to the industry gathering for the EIH Awards night she said she’s: “very proud of Fatima [manager of Richard Dare] for being nominated for Retail Employee of the Year, which is extremely well deserved.”

“The John Lewis team is delighted to be nominated again this year,” commented Lisa Rutherford, category lead Cookshop, John Lewis & Partners (finalist in several categories). “It’s been an unprecedented couple of years and trade is hard fought for retailers. We are especially excited to have recognition for our branches in terms of look and feel and retail training.”

Voisins’ Sarah Sacriste, head of marketing, commented: “What an absolute honour to be nominated as a finalist for the Excellence in Housewares Awards 2022. The past few years have been a challenge to say the least so being shortlisted alongside so many brilliant retailers and to be recognised for all our hard work really does make it all worth it.”

First-time finalist Jason Moran, managing director of Season Cookshop in London enthused: “We are over the moon. It is humbling indeed to know the efforts of our team of cooks and chefs over the past decade has been recognised by such an esteemed body.”

“This is super exciting; we’re feeling incredibly honoured to be shortlisted among so many big names in the housewares world,” said another first-time finalist, Sophie Atkins, co-owner of Quince & Cook, Perth.

Also making the finals for the first time for its 360 online tours, Aldiss of Fakenham’s trading director Tina Barkway commented: “We were delighted to have been nominated but to be a finalist is testament to all the team that put such effort and commitment into making each 360-filming session work. We reshoot every four months which involves the sales, marketing, web teams and more so this is a great boost for them and all their efforts in making it work.”

The winners will be revealed at a lavish event on the evening of Wednesday 5 October 2022 at the Royal Lancaster London, fully supported by trade associations BHETA and Bira, plus by trade shows including Ambiente, Exclusively and The Inspired Home Show in Chicago, and backed by leading suppliers across the housewares sector.
